Australian Aluminum Refinery Uses CeramAlloy CBX to Protect Scroll Drums Processing Bauxite in Mud Lakes

This aluminum refinery was experiencing rapid wear due to abrasion on the cone sections of the scrolls operating in their mud lakes.

The scrolls are primarily processing bauxite, mud with trace elements of sodium hydroxide, and rocks.

The one meter diameter wear plates on the scrolls are hardfaced welded but deteriorate quickly because of this damage, leading to frequent repairs.

With many other successful equipment repairs at this refinery such as pumps and bonnets, the local ENECON Distributor was contacted to provide a solution. CeramAlloy CBX was chosen because of its extraordinary abrasion resistance.

This application is expected to improve the repair schedule of the wear plates, saving this
refinery thousands of dollars.
