Constant exposure to salt water rendered this pump useless to the Panama Canal tugboat it was onboard. The Panama Canal Authority had 2 choices; replace the pump for thousands of dollars or repair it for a fraction of the cost. They chose to repair the pump with CeramAlloy instead of replacing it.
